bottlemail

bottlemail was a random email server based program originally from japan.

the user draws pictures in a png based format akin to MS Paint,
rather than a basic text message.
the interface was an ocean scene that went from sunrise to sunset throughout the day, and you drew your little picture and put it in a bottle, and threw it into the ocean, to watch it sail away.
then magically, *poof* a bottle with a message for you would come across the sea and onto your own private beach.

sadly, the service was discontinued in march 2002, but check out all the great pictures.
